How to get the most of your personal training sessions

You’ve finally taken the plunge and decided to hire a personal trainer. Congratulations! Having someone to help you reach your fitness goals is a huge step in the right direction. But what now? Here are a few tips on how to make the most of your personal training sessions.

Understand Your Goals

Before you start working with a personal trainer, it’s important that you sit down and think about what your goals are. Do you want to improve your overall fitness level? Are you looking to lose weight? Or are you trying to prepare for a specific event? Once you know what your goals are, you can communicate them to your trainer and work together to create a plan that will help you achieve them.

Create a goal list

You and your trainer should be on the same page about what you hope to accomplish during your time working together. This could involve anything from fat loss and muscle gain to increased mobility and helping with a specific injury. By having these goals in mind from the start, you can work together to create a plan that helps you reach them as efficiently as possible.

Make It a Priority

Treat your personal training sessions like doctor’s appointments or business meetings – in other words, don’t cancel unless it’s absolutely necessary. The more dedicated you are to your fit .

Show up Prepared

Show up on time (or early!) and be prepared: This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s important to show up to your session on time and adequately hydrated.Your trainer will appreciate it, and you’ll be able to maximize the time you have together.

Be open-minded :

It can be easy to go into a personal training session with preconceived notions of what exercises you will and will not like. However, it is important to be open-minded and give everything a try. You may be surprised at how much you enjoy an exercise that you thought you would hate.

Be honest about your abilities

It’s okay to admit that certain exercises are tough for you. Be honest with your trainer about any limitations you may have so that they can adjust the workout accordingly. There’s no shame in admitting that you need help!

Do your homework

Your trainer can’t be with you 24/7, so it’s important that you take an active role in your own fitness journey outside of sessions. This means eating right, staying hydrated, and getting enough sleep. It also means practicing the exercises and movements that you learn in session so that you can continue progressing even when your trainer isn’t there.

Come with questions & Take advantage of their knowledge

Use your time with your trainer wisely! Come prepared with questions about proper form, nutrition, goal-setting…you name it.Your trainer is there to help you, so don’t be afraid to pick their brain. Personal trainers are called “personal” trainers for a reason! They’re there to help YOU reach YOUR goals. So if you’re not sure how to do an exercise or need help troubleshooting your diet, don’t be afraid to ask them for guidance. That’s what they’re there for!

Communicate, communicate, communicate

One of the most important things that you can do during personal training sessions is communicate with your trainer. If something feels too difficult or painful, let them know right away so they can make adjustments accordingly. This also goes for things like schedule changes or any other potential issues that might arise. The better communication is between you and your trainer, the more successful your time working together will be!

Give feedback

Just like with any relationship, communication is key when working with a personal trainer. If something isn’t working for you or if you’re feeling overwhelmed, be sure to speak up and let your trainer know. They can’t read minds, after all! On the flip side, if there’s something that you really like or feel like you’re benefitting from, be sure to let them know that, too. Constructive feedback will help your trainer tailor future sessions specifically for YOU and ensure that everyone involved is happy with the process.

Personal trainers can be a huge asset when it comes to reaching your fitness goals. But it’s important to remember that YOU are also responsible for getting the most out of each session. By showing up on time and prepared, coming with questions, and being honest about your abilities, you can make the most of your personal training sessions and finally achieve the results you’ve been looking for.
